International Standing: Jordan has been a member of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) since 1972 and is a signatory to the Paris Convention and the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT). Notably, Jordan is not a member of the Madrid System; therefore, international registrations under the Madrid Protocol do not apply, and protection must be secured through direct national filings.

A patent under the new Law is valid for twenty years from the date of filing the application subject to payment of the prescribed annuity fees starting from the 2nd year of the date of filing in Jordan or the convention filing date in the case of priority applications. A grace period of six months with a fine is allowed.
Compulsory Licensing
Compulsory license may also be requested if the patent owner or his successors started the exploitation, then seized to do so for a period not less than three years for no legitimate reason.
