Country: SYRIA
Strategic Hub: Situated at the heart of the Levant, Syria has historically served as a critical commercial crossroads connecting the Mediterranean to the Mesopotamian and Arabian trade routes. For international businesses, maintaining trademark and IP protection here is a vital long-term strategy for preserving brand equity and preventing infringement in a region that acts as a key gateway for regional commerce.
Regulatory Body: Intellectual property rights, including trademarks, patents, and industrial designs, are managed by the Directorate of Commercial and Industrial Property Protection (DCIP), which operates under the Ministry of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection.
International Standing: Syria has a long-standing presence in the global IP community as a member of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). It is a signatory to the Paris Convention and, notably, has been a member of the Madrid Protocol since 2004. This allows international brand owners to secure protection in the Syrian market through the streamlined international registration system.
